when words fail


My glazed eyes blink; the page stays blank.

I have no pointed answers.

I’m whittled out. Hollowed.

Forty-two words are far too few

To contain her wisdom, her truths.

Just as fifty-seven years were too few.

But that’s all Mom was given.

  1. I thought of you and a few other writers I know who have lost their mothers when I saw this prompt. It’s a good thing that, in reality, you can use more than forty-two words to remember her whenever you need to.
